Commission - Moving With The Tide | Fal River Festival

As part of the Falmouth River Festival celebrations, The Works commissioned five artists to create and perform work on June 1st. Myself and co-collaborator, dancer Robert Mennear were awarded one of the commissions which formed part of the 'Moving With The Tide' programme of performances. Our piece 'Hush Hush', was created in collaboration with violinist Amie Willingale and performed at various points throughout the day along the banks of the River Fal.

The duet was also performed at On The Wire - Dance and Art event, and is currently in development to be performed at festivals and platforms in 2011/12.

Freefall Dance Summer School

Last week Freefall Dance launched a 3 day intensive Summer School combining technical training, creative workshops and marketing and promotional skills delivered as a professional development opportunity for the independent dancer and dance makers.

The intensive was co-produced by The Works, University College Falmouth and Freefall Dance, and supported by Relays. The Summer School was hosted by University College Falmouth at their studios at the Performance Centre, near Falmouth, delivering technical class and creative sessions for advanced and intermediate level dancers:

Leading artists:
Victoria Fox (Jasmin Vardimon, Candoco)
Cai Tomos (Earthfall Physical Theatre)
Kuldip Sing-Barmi (DV8, Candoco)
Rahel Vonmoos (Charles Linehan, Rosemary Butcher)

The three days were a fantastic opportunity to bring together dancers from across Cornwall, The South West and the UK, to take part in and share an opportunity to work with some incredible practicing artists. The Business Skills seminars were an invaluable resource opening up discussions and exchanging information. Delivered by The Works, and Sally Williams (Cscape Dance Company) they offered a realistic approah to applying for funding, working freelance and business development skills for setting up a company.
