On The Wire - Dance and Art event

On Saturday June 11th myself and two other dancers, Grace Sellwood and Robert Mennear curated a live dance and art event at The Poly Arts Centre, Falmouth. It was a truly special evening with all of the performers and artists involved spending time creating and sharing their work. The artist led evening hosted some incredible original work and documentation of projects including 'Five Songs on The Rooftops' (Angela Praed) and 'Global Gardens' (Cscape). It also provided a platform for professional and emerging choreographers to show their live work, as part of the selected short pieces performed as part of the evening.

The evening had 100 audience members, and played host to artists including Cscape, Angela Praed, Belinda Whiting, John Trigg, Steve Tanner, Melanie Young, Kevin Clifford, Mark Jenkin, Brett Harvey, Mark Parry...an incredible collection of inspiring and beautiful work. We couldn't have asked for a better evening, a huge thank you to all that helped make the evening possible.

We hope the event can come back next year, please keep in touch via our facebook page, further information coming soon...

Bouncing Around

Earlier this year I applied for a Dance Card to support training and CPD in Aeriel and Release techniques, and was successful, awarded funds by The Works to support my time researching and developing skills with Wired Aerial at their base on the Docklands in Liverpool and at The Place, home of LCDS in London.

So...I found myself bouncing around on the end of a bungee, especially designed for 'bungee assisted dance' a technique created by Wendy Hesketh and Jamie Ogilvie. It's an incredible experience for anyone, literally being lighter than air, but especially as a dancer spending time training on the floor and on the vertical wall, leaping through the air and now I've got the bug, I'm hooked. It's an incredible feeling as a dancer to have a whole other level of freedom and space to explore physically. The company work on huge outdoor, large scale commissions and performances that travel to various festivals.

Please see their website for further details of their work and training opportunities.

Taking place at The Place, at this years Easter School, the Dance Card supported my training in release based classes, research and a chance to see the latest work being developed at Independent Dance (ID) and take part in Hofesh Shecter workshops with two of the companies dancers.
